It was a pleasure to visit PH80MAN. I know Erwin for a short time, but he and the other crew are an inspiration for this wonderful radio hobby. I was also honored to be operator and logger. 😊 About the food droppings.. My parents did tell me so much stories about the droppings... It was a true gift after so many years of hunger. Only they had to be careful not to eat too much at once.
beautiful station, beautiful location and above all "so that we never forget". In these turbulent times it is good to look back at what has been and never want to experience again. Thank you for letting me lead the HGL 11-hour radio gathering from this special location with a special call!
I managed to work VB6MAN, VB7MAN and W4C never heard the others, but could barely hear PH80MAN on 40m. My Father was with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles from D-Day to the end. Their last battle was at Delfzijl. A plaque is on the church wall in Appingedam in honour of their battle. I was in Netherlands in 2020 tracing his route from D-Day but did not reach that far because of COVID. Hopefully I can return to The Netherlands soon as I was treated like family.
I was very privileged to speak to the 100 year old father of G3WBQ who was part of a Lancaster crew during the food droppings. I send him a picture i made of a cloisonnè ceramic tableau made short after the war and depicting the food droppings just as he described them!
They were greateful for that.
I discovered furthermore that my father has had the same airman training as he has had. what a coincidence!
I enjoyed this radio event and will make a great compliment to all who made this possible.
I just want to mention that, as a 14 years old boy, I have watched the droppings near Zandvoort on the North Sea, behind the dunes. I have helped the gathering of the food packets and tin cans. I lived nearby in the village of Bentveld.
I am 94 now, but have vivid recollections of what happened in that period in (my then) small world.
I followed most developments in the war, using my Bos Atlas.
Only heard, discovered your event, and worked VB7MAN today. Beautiful award certificate. Doubt I'll make 4 QSO's with only hours left. Thank you for to the event and VY 73!
Thanks for the good Job, my parents got the food 80 years ago

I am visiting PH80MAN at this exact moment at a beautiful location Duinigt horse racing track on the border of The Hague and Wassenaar. Very impressed with what I hear from the Manna operation. My father of 92 years old knew exactly what Manna was when I mentioned it to him. Thanks and 73 de PH2X.
TNX for the opportunity to support our dutch friends during their SES PH80MAN here at Duindigt, Wassenaar in the last days and work many stations all over the world. See you on the bands!
Made contact with VK80MAN on the 24th April at 08:57 utc time, been following the pages and they havn't been on air. Hope to hear the stations so I can log more contacts with them. Its great to follow the stories. Keep up the great work. From VK4GAP
Visiting the site where the droppings were back in the days, impressive moment hearing and reading the stories that happened.
Happy to see that the team is keeping the memory alive of the times of the German occupation in this beautiful manner.
A couple of years ago I showed my late father a photograph. it showed a few people with planes in the air. My father told me that this was a food-dropping he witnessed in the area of Velsen. Later I found out this was operation Chowhound.
So, this special radio event touches me deeply, yes, a little emotional I may say.
Thank you for keeping the history alive.. XX
Congratulations on setting up station PH80MAN and all the other memorial stations. Its very important to keep these stations on air.
Thank you and 73s, from the whole PH80LIB crew.
Best regards,
Frank
A nice remembrance of an important event in Dutch history. All the best this weekend!
Thanks for this great experience. To all station operators whom contacted us, all supporting services (like TV and Radio Crew, facility owners, catering services), all people involved in setting up the stations world-wide and the associated families that let their family members run this event for some days. 73 de Erwin, PA3EFR @ PH80MAN.
Very happy to work today with PH80MAN and GB80MAN, I love this kind of events as I have in person, when I was in 1965 & 1966, the manna drops experienced, an event you never, ever forget. Thank you very much all involved setting up this event, highly appreciated. Now to collect two other contacts and see if I can get this very nice award. With kind regards and 73's from PA1JH, Jim...
