RAF Waddington Amateur Radio Club
The Club was Founded in 1988, the club was originally housed at the RAF Waddington airbase. RAF operational requirements caused the club to move off base in 1999, though it is still the case that many members either are, or have been, serving RAF personnel, or have family links to the RAF or other armed services.
Since 1999, the club has met at the Pyewipe Inn, Lincoln, where it has a purpose-built radio room and a meeting room. The extensive grounds offer lots of space for members to set up antennas and complete testing.
Meetings generally take place at the shack every Friday evening from 19:30 and there is a weekly club net on the air every Monday from 19:30 on the local repeater GB3LM. The radio room is available to members at other times for contest operating, or testing of personal equipment and such.
The 3rd Friday in each month in the Winter is frequently reserved for a talk by a club member, or guest speaker topics are not necessarily radio related but reflect the individual experiences of our membership.
The club is affiliated to RAFARS and takes part in the Airfields on the Air event every year. The club also run Special Event Stations, some commemorating anniversaries of RAF operations and occasions of remembrance often at the International Bomber Command Centre Lincoln, Newark Air Museum or former RAF Binbrook as well as running more general Special Event Stations.
The club welcomes aspiring radio amateurs from any background to become members and provide training at all licence levels free of charge, in the form of 1-to-1 tuition and support via video call and email. This allows students to learn at their own pace, whatever their individual circumstances.
RAF Waddington ARC runs its own radio rally twice a year.
Communications Badges courses for Scouts and Guides can be run
The Club will run GB80MAN from the International Bomber Command Centre for the Operation Manna Commemorations.
